Meridian Naturals SAM-e
Meridian Naturals SAM-e (also known as S-adenosylmethionine) is not an herb
but a naturally occurring chemical in the body. It is a compound produced by our
bodies from methionine. Methionine is an amino acid found in protein-rich foods.
Meridian Naturals SAM-e supports healthy mood and joint function.
Meridian Naturals SAM-e is pharmaceutical quality, stabilized SAM-e and a full 400 mg elemental SAM-e. Our SAM-e is manufactured under low temperature and low humidity and is enteric-coated to ensure a biologically active product.
What is SAM-e Used For?
SAM-e helps with the maintenance of cell membranes, removal of toxic
substances from the body, and the production of mood-enhancing neurotransmitters. SAM-e is required for the synthesis of
norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. It is also helpful for nutritional
support of those suffering from joint
discomfort.
Benefits of SAM-e
• May help promote a healthy mood.*
• Clinically proven to benefit brain, joint and liver function.*
• Supports the production of healthy connective tissue through transulfuration.*
• Supports the synthesis of glutathione and glutathione-dependent enzymes (glutathione peroxidase and glutathione-S-transferase),
which are powerful antioxidants important for liver function.*
• Proper methylation through substances such as SAM-e may also positively influence longevity.*
How Does SAM-e Work?
SAM-e (S-Adenosylmethionine) is a chiral molecule and consists of two forms: (S,S) SAM-e and (R,S) SAM-e. The biologically active form is the (S,S) structure. Meridian Naturals TM SAM-e is made naturally by microbiological fermentation and then specially processed without solvents to preserve 68-80% (S,S) SAM-e. SAM-e is an amino acid derivative that is found in all living cells and is also called “activated” methionine since it is formed by the combining of ATP with methionine.
Transulfuration is the process where the critical components of connective tissue - including glucosamine and chondroitin sulfates, are sulfated by SAM-e metabolites.
SAM-e methylation reactions are involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as L-dopa, dopamine and related hormones, epinephrine and phosphatidylcholine. Methylation of DNA appears to be important in the suppression of errors in DNA replication. Demethylation of DNA is considered a contributor to the aging process.
SAM-e is best absorbed in the intestines instead of the stomach, therefore it has been enterically coated to prevent breakdown in the stomach. Blister packaging prevents moisture from entering the tablets which can degrade the active isomers and reduce effectiveness.
